In the early 1900's Japanese Jiu Jitsu was brought to Brazil to the Gracie family by Mitsuyo Maeda when he went the to start a colony. After he taught brothers Carlos and Helio Gracie, they began to evolve these ancient techniques which were a closely guarded secret up until then. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a collection of techniques and submissions designed to survive and even subdue a larger opponent. Participants will need a Gi or Kimono for this class. A mouth guard is optional but encouraged.
Similar to wrestling, No-Gi Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a combination of wrestling and judo takedowns, guard passing, and pins & submissions. Participants will need athletic shirt and shorts/pants. A mouth guard is optional but encouraged.
We will cover the basics of stance, kicking, and punching with the addition of knees and elbows. Participants will need an athletic shirt and shorts/pants. We will have a vinyasa style yoga class where we will move through basic asanas. This will be a beginner friendly class. Yoga mats and blocks will be provided. However, if you have your own, please bring them. Blankets are optional, and if you are a beginner we encourage you to bring one.
