In the early 1900's Japanese Jiu Jitsu was brought to Brazil to the Gracie family by Mitsuyo Maeda when he went the to start a colony. After he taught brothers Carlos and Helio Gracie, they began to evolve these ancient techniques which were a closely guarded secret up until then. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a collection of techniques and submissions designed to survive and even subdue a larger opponent. Participants will need a Gi or Kimono for this class. Most GI's will come with a white belt which is the starting belt that will be needed. A mouth guard is optional but encouraged.
Similar to wrestling, No-Gi Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a combination of wrestling and judo takedowns, guard passing, and pins & submissions. Participants will need athletic shirt and shorts/pants. A mouth guard is optional but encouraged.
We will cover the basics of stance, kicking, and punching with the addition of knees and elbows. Participants will need an athletic comfortable shirt and shorts/pants. We will provide Thai pads and focus Mits. We do have some boxing gloves to be shared. It is preferred that you purchase your own gloves that are your size. Mouth guard and hand wraps are optional but not required.
Slow Flow Yoga Class-This flow will be paced at a beginner to intermediate level. It will move at 3-5 breaths per pose. The flow will start with a mat warm up. It will then move through a standing vinyasa flow to its peak. Students will then return to the mat for a cool down and end in savasana. Yoga mats and blocks will be provided. However, if you have your own, please bring them. Please bring your own blankets and pillows, if needed.
This class will emphasize no GI takedowns with details on clinching and wrestling freestyle take downs. Participants will need an athletic comfortable shirt and short/pants.
